about the general election

About the General Election?

The general election will decide which candidates are elected to various offices. Generally, these candidates were nominated during the primary election held earlier this year.

This year’s election is a presidential election and voters will decide which candidate will be awarded Maryland’s 10 electoral votes.

In Maryland, "absentee voting" is called "mail-in voting," so follow these guidelines if you've voted "absentee" in the past.

Some voters may need to vote provisionally if the local board of elections is reviewing their eligibility. The provisional ballot application will be reviewed, and only the contests for which the voter is eligible will be counted, provided all criteria are met.
