2024 Prince George’s Special Election Reporting Schedule (PDF)

The Prince George’s County Board of Elections is conducting a Special Election to fill a recent vacancy in an At-Large County Council seat.

The Special Election Primary Election date is August 6, 2024. Primary Election ballots will be mailed in late July to every eligible Prince George’s County voter, and will include a postage pre-paid return envelope.

The Special Election General Election date is November 5, 2024. The Special Election General Election will be held at the same time as the 2024 Presidential Election on November 5, 2024.

Register to Vote

To vote in the 2024 Prince George’s At-Large County Council Special Elections, you must be registered to vote.

The Special Primary Election registration deadline is July 16, 2024 (or else you will need to register in person at a voting location, more details below.)

You may also register to vote or update your voter registration information in person during early voting or on election day. If you update your address on election day, you will be asked to complete a provisional ballot. An election judge will assist you with this process.


Vote by Mail (Mail-in Ballot)

Your Special Primary Election mail-in ballot must be returned by 8 pm on Special Primary Election Day, August 6th.

Completing your Ballot

When filling out your ballot, remember to:

  • Use black ink to mark your ballot.
  • Sign the return envelope. Do not sign the ballot.
  • Seal your return envelope.
  • Send your ballot using the postage-paid return envelope.


Returning your Ballot

First Class Mail – U.S. Post Office

We urge all voters to return their ballots as soon as possible due to backlogs in the U.S. Postal Service. Your ballot comes with a postage-paid return envelope, so submitting your ballot by mail is free. Your ballot must be postmarked on or before August 6, 2024 for the Special Primary Election. Putting your ballot in a mailbox on election days does not mean it is postmarked.

Drop Box Locations

Voters can use a ballot drop box to return their mail-in ballot. Ballot drop boxes are open until 8 pm on election days. The drop box locations are posted here.

Voting In Person

We are mailing a mail-in ballot to every eligible voter to vote by mail. If you prefer to vote in person, the dates and times are as follows:

In person Early Voting will be offered for the Special Primary Election July 31, 2024 - August 5, 2024 from 10 am - 8 pm each day (except 12 pm – 6 pm on Sunday)

In person Election Day voting will be offered August 6, 2024 from 7 am - 8 pm.

Public Notices

Notice of a Public Demonstration – At-Large County Council

The Prince George’s County Board of Elections will conduct a public demonstration that describes the process of determining the Logic and Accuracy of the voting equipment that will be used in the At-Large County Council Special Election. The demonstration will be held at 9 am on July 26, 2024.
